He Only Takes The Trash Out On Sundays

what rotten meat
smells like
after a week?
I spray the cans
with Lysol...
Powder Fresh, Lemon, Spring Breeze
it doesn’t matter
what scent.
He only takes
the trash out
on sundays –
doesn’t bother with
what’s upstairs or
in the dining room,
cans that
aren’t quite full yet.
Sometimes,
I take it out
in the middle
of the week.
He yells.
Says the animals
will get in it, and
he’ll have to
pick it up
from the yard,
then conveniently forgets
to take it to the curb
come sunday
till it’s piled
to the window.
Once,
I put it
in the shed,
so the animals
couldn’t find it.
It sat there
till spring
and he needed
to mow the lawn.
Now I leave it
in the kitchen
until sunday,
spray the cans
with Lysol
every week
       “kills 99.9% of germs”
I doubt that, but
at least it doesn’t smell
like rotten meat
for a little while.
